Taking fragments and stories from Marina’s past, the new album welcomes an assembly of images, deftly weaving together a new future, in what feels for all the world like a glittering, clear-eyed modern classic of alternative folk and Americana. Her songs hold a dynamism that conjure distinctive worlds of their own.
New single ‘Romantic Worlds’ is an elaborate love song where exuberant synths explore brief encounters and our perceptions of modern romance. Accompanied by a fantasy inspired, hazy romantic new music video, it sees a couple transported to another dimension where they are challenged in an otherworldly universe to use their character skills in order to escape.
‘HAD3S’ is a call for people to find balance; we find ourselves at tipping point, standing in the shadow of Hades, god of the underworld. Whilst the contrasting ‘AOL SLYT’ was shot at Berlin’s craggy Hermannplatz. This second half exhibits the comfort and discomfort of both, fast food and music consumption.
To celebrate they revisit their debut with a new take on ‘Tropical Still Life (Floridian Variant)’. A mutant Cumbia groove set against a 60s bassline, the single’s haunted combo organs swell and swirl around kinetic rhythms. It’s woven together with serpentine strands of arabesque fuzz-guitar, as a voice calls from the darker shadows, inviting you to the floor.
