Mekons sign to Fire Records. Listen to the new single ‘You’re Not Singing Anymore’

Following their highly praised 2022 album, ‘Exquisite’, legendary postmodern, post punk, post human, past caring collective Mekons join Fire Records with new music set for release in 2025. Out 19th November, you can listen to new single ‘You’re Not Singing Anymore’ released alongside their newly announced extensive tour across the U.S, U.K and Europe next year.

‘You’re Not Singing Anymore’ with its every-person bravado and reels with violin as it unfurls an unreliable story of the modern world’s hazy recollections of the past.

Mekons: “We were recording in Valencia, where General Franco drove democracy into the sea and somehow it was agreed that the horror must never be mentioned again.”

It’s a sad story spun out on a melancholy melody with Mekons’ acidic wit to the fore, bringing to mind the much recounted but often misappropriated phrase, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Almost 50 years in the making, these Mekons continue to tug at our thoughts and reasoning; they entertain and challenge, leaving us to wonder, at every turn, just what the hell are we doing and how did we get here.

The Mekons are Jon Langford, Sally Timms, Tom Greenhalgh, Dave Trumfio, Susie Honeyman, Rico Bell, Steve Goulding and Lu Edmonds.

When I first listened to the vocal demo I recorded, I was amazed but really saddened. I had no idea it would come out that way and affect me like that. when I sent it to the others they all had the exact same feeling.  The song touched us all and at the end of the day songs are about carrying emotions. It wil always be a special one to us. Japanese Medicine started as a sketch we recorded when we booked Katzwijm studio tot practice and write new songs for a week. When back home we transformed the sketch into a song in a very short while. It became the song that confirmed what the mood of our new record would be
