Fire Records starts celebrations for their 40th orbit (1984-2024) at Paper Dress Vintage on 31st January, a precursor to the massive, near sold-out all day extravaganza at EartH (Hackney), taking place on 27 April 2024.
Home to psychedelic wanderers, everyday cult icons and experimental deep thinkers, Fire curates a special evening for Independent Venue Week featuring Isle-of-Eigg psych-dad Pictish Trail and Welsh liminal shapeshifters Islet; a far-flung smorgasbord brought into unified focus for one night only.
Pictish Trail’s acclaimed album, Island Family, is a strange, sardonic and deeply personal record; a view of arcadia, it’s a search for the euphoric in the bucolic by way of Flaming Lips, Liars, Mercury Rev and Beck.
“Mysterious, cinematic, pop melancholia” The Guardian
“One of my favourite artists” Lauren Laverne
Islet’s hypnotic, free-spirited invention and exuberant intensity is exhilarating and defiantly unique. Their lauded new album Soft Fascination is an ecstatic explosion of emotion, a balancing act of high energy cadence and meditations underpinned with glorious melodies and evocative vocals that swirl in a symphonic surf.
“Truly defiant.. their psych-indebted wanderings occupy a singular realm” Clash
“ A clattering rush of snappy euphoria, krautrock pulses and Liz Fraser-esque vocal layering.” MOJO
