Graham Reynolds and Marta Del Grandi reveal first collaboration with the release of new single. Out 11th December via Fire Records, new single ‘Linger In Silence’ sees Graham joined by classically trained Italian vocalist, Marta Del Grandi.
A marriage prophesied in the stars, Graham is a “quintessential modern composer” (Independent UK) who’s ingenious and eerily poignant, and Marta is an eclectic songwriter renowned for her stimulating modern and ancestral influences.
The first sample from the composer’s new release, ‘Linger In Silence’ is a cliff hanger, underpinned with strings that builds to an almighty crescendo. She croons, his piano tumbles into submission, an accordion hums and steel guitar wails, the scene shifts, the tension builds; it’s epic with crashing cymbals amid the playful symbolism.
The result is a two-sided take on one song, as ‘Linger In Silence’ is a brief encounter delivered in English and Italian that brings two views derived from the same evocative melody. It’s a slow build with a panoramic middle section and, inevitably, a lustrous finish.
“I first saw Marta del Grandi live last spring in Austin. Fantastic show! When collaborating became an option I leapt. She brings a whole world of sonic creativity to the table and pushes the material to new places, adding lyrics and vocals with her personal touch. I’m hoping we can find a way to be onstage together sometime soon.” explains Graham
“It’s been an honour to collaborate with Graham, I wrote and recorded the vocals at Lago Maggiore last summer and the lyrics are inspired by the quiet and peace of that beautiful scenario.” adds Marta
Graham Reynolds (Re-imaginer of Hitchcock’s The Lodger, also on Fire Records, co-worker on The Sound Of Science and the composer of choice for acclaimed film director Richard Linklater) met Marta Del Grandi (a jazz pupil at the Conservatorio G Verdi in Milan, who matured into an ethereal, explorer of exotic and folk-tinged sounds with a nod to West Coast romanticism) at Fire’s SXSW showcase in 2022. Drawn to each other’s craft, Graham envisioned them working together and before long invited her to contribute to the track.
