The multi-cultural Brooklyn-based composer and producer Faten Kanaan follows her much praised Fire debut ‘A Mythology of Circles’ with the track ‘Cascando’, a mysterious instrumental unravelling which continues her exploration of music’s cyclical patterns.
“A wondrously strange record, full of hidden nuances.” The Quietus
Originally released on US TV network Adult Swim’s eclectic ‘Digitalis’ compilation, the track is named after Samuel Beckett’s use of that term to describe a diminuendo in volume and/or tempo. It’s also inspired by the moments before an orchestral performance, when the musicians are tuning to one another… the grey area between the noise of chatter and a hush descending.
A digital-only release,‘Cascando’ alternates between drifting swathes of sound, and the heaviness of mossy ancient cathedral stones; it reverberates into itself, a soothing, diffusive piece that reflects a minimalist narrative of sheer beauty.
“Lets playfulness weave through her cinematic forms as orchestral tapestries, chamber folk and electronics commune.” MOJO magazine
