Following the release of their acclaimed new album ‘Excerpts From Chapter 3: The Mind Runs A Net Of Rabbit Paths’, Rats On Rafts reveal new single ‘Tokyo Music Experience (Extended)’ backed with their take on Pere Ubu’s ‘Visions Of The Moon’. Coinciding with the release, they announce their UK winter 2021 tour with a special London live date that’s soon to be revealed. Also premiering on July 3rd, ‘Visions From Chapter 3’ is an interdisciplinary music film through TivoliVredenburg centered around the band performing the new album in its entirety alongside film, visuals, theatre and dance.
Original cut ‘Tokyo Music Experience’ is a pristine anthem that resonates with a conveyor belt-propelled modal guitar reflecting the halcyon days of Japanese super-productivity with news bulletin on-the-hour bleeps underlining its time-sensitive nature.
This newly extended version of the track reinforces solidarity with the party whilst channelling Rats On Rafts love for 80s 12” vinyl.
“You’d get the extended version on the 12” record with obvious tape cuts. While recording an instrumental version of the song we figured this would be great for a 12” and always great for playing live.”
During the recent release of their new album, long-time supporter David Thomas was keen to feature the record on his Pere Ubu Datapanik TV channel (DPK TV) and soon followed an invite to cover Pere Ubu’s music that would be included in one of his DPK TV shows.
“We didn’t want to do a song from the earlier period as that would be impossible to match. We all really liked ‘Visions Of The Moon’ from the ‘Carnival Of Souls’ album and that record was out when we played with David in London a few years back.”
Against snow blizzards and local curfews in Rotterdam, Rats On Rafts coalesced producing an enticing and masterful rendition of ‘Visions Of The Moon’ against the clock.
