About Earth

Earth Recordings is an independent reissue specialist producing high quality archival releases, founded by James Nicholls, who also runs the resurrected and reinvigorated Fire Records, and designer Alex Hornsby.  Earth has gone from strength to strength in its 5 short years and now includes the support of the Fire Records team and an array of supporting members including catalogue specialist and writer Pat Thomas, formerly of Light In the Attic.

In an over-saturated marketplace for rediscovered ‘classics’ Earth takes a patient, quality over quantity approach, often working hand-in-glove with artists and estate, to create lavish packages that reflect the esteem the music is held in. From privately issued Tasmanian psych-folk obscurities (Howard Eynon, Steve Warner) to the bona-fide royalty of British folk music (Bert Jansch, Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs), with various digressions in between (Mikael Tariverdievs ‘Film Music’, The Music of Bagpuss, Dennis Hoppers ‘The Last Movie’ Soundtrack and the undefinable ‘Trees’), Earth’s eclectic catalogue is built on a love for music rooted in tradition but shot through with  free-spirited nature.

Fire celebrates 40 years of fierce independence !

Fire Records recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in style with a full day of music at a sold out event at the EartH theatre in Hackney, presented by the celebrated comedian and long time friend of the label Stewart Lee who called Fire "One of the last great Indie Labels".
