The Lemonheads ‘Lovey’

30th Anniversary Edition Reissue 2LP deluxe book repackaged with expanded liner note and unseen photos.

Deluxe 30th anniversary edition of The Lemonheads ‘Lovey’, this double LP deluxe book with expanded liner notes and unseen photos is the definitive document of Dando’s first steps towards the mainstream. Lovingly repackaged and remastered it’s accompanied by second vinyl ‘Triple J Live at the Wireless’ from their legendary 1991 trip to Australia.

“Like Hüsker Dü when they  were at their most  ferocious or REM when  they were at their most  Byrdsian hypnotic.” NME

The Groundhogs ‘Split’

Limited edition double red vinyl with gatefold sleeve

The second of three ground-breaking albums by the ultimate power trio who morphed blues into hard rock and spawned punk. The second side delivers the mighty ‘Cherry Red’, McPhee’s take on The Beatles’ ‘A Day In the Life’, a sideswipe at junk food and a glorious interpretation of John Lee Hooker’s ‘Groundhogs Blues’.

A much-loved opus with a side-long concept piece. A bona fide inspirational rock classic. Remastered and packaged with a second disc of out-takes from the original sessions that spawned this spontaneous monster. ‘Split’ is released on double red vinyl for Record Store Day.

“Tony McPhee has turned to anarchic paranoid battlegrounds of the mind for inspiration,” Melody Maker

“Supercharged, fractured and raging.” MOJO

Television Personalities ‘Some Kind Of Happiness?’

Singles 1994-1999 Limited edition double LP with gatefold sleeve

A two-disc retrospective of every single track released by The Television Personalities between the tail end of 1994 and 1999. Featuring legendary songwriter Dan Treacy, a gifted storyteller who places the world in his own hazy shade of focus, heading deep into introspection.

Featuring all the EP and single tracks that originally appeared on a host of indie pop labels, it’s a cohesive trip into the mind of the songwriter along with a host of his favourite cover versions.

All in a lavish package with extensive sleeve notes and unseen photographs.

“Seen through this half empty glass, darkly, Dan Treacy is not Pete Doherty. He’s Elliott Smith, or Ian Curtis, but honestly, genuinely better and more gifted than either.” Pop Matters

Throwing Muses ‘Purgatory/Paradise’

Limited edition double LP gatefold sleeve

Originally released in 2013, ‘Purgatory/Paradise’ gets reissued for the first time on double vinyl. Emerging ten years from a hiatus, it’s a formidable 32 track opus of tangible bliss from the alt-rock heroes. Devised as a book with essays by Kristin Hersh with art by drummer Dave Narcizo, it’s a fractured album about loss, most tracks are short, broken, some are reprises. It includes ‘Milan’ about a neighbourhood in New Orleans where Hersh’s house was destroyed by hurricane Katrina, ‘Static’ that deals with a close loss of a close friend and ‘Terra Nova’ an ode to the band’s first break up.

★★★★ Pitchfork

“The songs still bewitchingly combine beauty and tension.” The Guardian

Bardo Pond ‘On The Ellipse’

Ltd Edition Double Purple vinyl, Gatefold sleeve

A critically revered space rock masterpiece, 2003’s ‘On The Ellipse’ is reissued on double purple vinyl for this year’s Record Store Day.

Originally released on ATP Recordings, these songs take you on a deeply hypnotic cosmic mind-expanding trip from the beguiling heavy riffs of ‘Night Of The Frogs’ to the psych-folk of ‘Walking Clouds’.

“Similar to Janis Joplin fronting Acid Mothers Temple buried underneath a fog of dense instrumentation” Pitchfork

 “Another great album” Exclaim

The Bevis Frond ‘Valedictory Songs’

Ltd Edition Double Black vinyl, Gatefold sleeve

Recorded in Gold Dust Studios with a new sense of optimism and a fuller sound down to lots of extra energy (Nick believed it might be their last ever record) and the addition of piano and keyboards brings an instrumental direction.

With former Hawkwind bassist Adrian Shaw and Ex-Marrillion tub-thumper Andy Ward, the album – some 72 minutes of poetic majesty; super chunky in places, silkily soft elsewhere – is a smorgasbord of melodies, from tear-jerking beauty to maximum riffage (with added guitarist Bari Watts on ‘Can’t Feel It’).

Reissued on double LP for the first time since 2000, lovingly packaged in a gatefold sleeve for Record Store Day 2020.

“‘High On A Downer’, ‘The Speed Of Light’, and the mid-tempo, ’70s-inspired ‘Early Riser’ certainly tread closer to “monster ballad” status than anything Saloman has done in the past.” Pitchfork

“A graduation of sorts from the psychedelic bubbling and gurgling guitar experimentation of previous albums to crunchy psych-pop with an emphasis on straight-up songwriting.” AllMusic

“As a rock songwriter, Saloman is simply unstoppable.” Pitchfork

“There are feel-good Beatles melodies here, Nick Drake-esque folk-rock, and new wavy power punk.” AllMusic

The Bevis Frond ‘What Did For The Dinosaurs’

Ltd Edition Double Black vinyl, Gatefold sleeve

Back in the day, Record Collector enthused and mentioned “’Burnt Weenie Sandwich’ era Zappa”, “The Pretty Things” and “Byrds with attitude”. The set, some 70 minutes-plus closes with a 14-minute prog rock corker and in between; there’s the usual Frondisms – Beatles-esque couplets, minor chord progressions, Bond-esque echo, folk rock masterclasses, baroque pop and all the well-thumbed pages of the psych pop song book.

Originally released in 2002, two years after Valedictory Songs, The Bevis Frond returned with a more progressive sound with complex structures and instrumentation. Bursting with their trademark guitar licks, impeccable songwriting and a more upbeat sound.

Available on Double Vinyl for the first time ever, lovingly packaged in a gatefold sleeve for Record Store Day

“A staggering 16 slices of his trademark psych-pop in the manner of sprawling Bevis Frond classics like 1991’s ‘New River Head’.” All Music

The Jazz Butcher ‘Big Planet Scary Planet’

Ltd Edition Black vinyl

So, it’s the end of the ‘80s, you’re on Creation Records. You’ve got a justifiable reputation for clever lyrics, witticisms, one-liners, melancholy, irony, conceptualisation and such – plus a penchant to write pop songs. The Jazz Butcher is in the process of slowly whittling down to one, but Pat Fish here continues to consistently makes music that stops people in their tracks providing poignant social commentary for a bedraggled nation.

Big Planet, Scarey Planet (1989) “This was a real “band” album by a touring unit which had become really quite ferocious.” Pat Fish. The sound is bigger, symphonic – all swirling guitars behind the vitriol and conjecture; a post-Smithsian screenplay for Coronation Street. Sounds reckoned it was a “Vicious mismatch of outrage, black humour and sentiment.” And Mick Mercer in the Melody Maker said: “Good old Butch – bringing you tomorrow’s shit today.” He liked that. Perfect.

“Brilliant” Allmusic

The Jazz Butcher ‘Fishcotheque’

Ltd Edition Black vinyl

Fishcotheque (1988) “This was a rock ‘n’ roll thing, not some “eccentricity”. I had my shades and I had my fringed suede jacket and I had the Weather Prophets’ rhythm section,” recalled Pat. “That rare beast, an LP of cool, laid back pop,” said Record Mirror.

“Surprisingly poppy and accessible, although not without an edge of weirdness” KEXP

Remastered & Reissued for the First Time on Vinyl for Record Store Day

The Jazz Butcher ‘Cult Of The Basement’

Ltd Edition Black vinyl

Cult Of The Basement (1990) sees them withdrawing very much into their own mad little world, something’s happening here. There’s still jangle but it’s wrestling with accordions. It’s “lean, jazz and cabaret-style pop gems” claimed All Music. “A disconcertingly fine magnum opus which, if it emanated from a more in-vogue source, would currently be having its maverick genius analysed to death” the Melody Maker added.

“Unmistakably the work of the Butcher” Louder Than War

Remastered & Reissued for the first time on Vinyl, in it’s 30th Anniversary year, for Record Store Day 2020.

The Jazz Butcher ‘Condition Blue’

Ltd edition Black vinyl

‘Condition Blue’ (1991) sees The Jazz Butcher now solo but with a band playing “smart pop songs with cleverly twisted lyrics, ringing guitars, and sad sax solos; a poppy kind of music that’s slightly nostalgic and still hip,” quipped Option magazine. Pat is still “punning, clever displays of hurt and revulsion.” (©Select)

“Fish devours pop culture, pop music, and the human condition with a ferocity and zest that is relentless and sometimes ruthless.” Popmatters

Remastered & Reissued for the first time on Vinyl, for Record Store Day 2020.

Josephine Foster ‘This Coming Gladness’

Ltd Edition Black vinyl

An essential reissue of Josephine Foster’s crucially revered classic ‘This Coming Gladness’ is released for the first time on vinyl since 2008 for this year’s Record Store Day.

The vinyl comes with brand new artwork and is housed in a reverse board sleeve with a download card.

“Josephine’s best effort to date, deserves top grades in every aspect: songwriting, production, and that voice.” AllMusic (2008)

Bert Jansch 'Live In Italy’

Ltd Edition Double Black vinyl

Via Earth Recordings.

Previously unreleased live recording of Bert Jansch’s stunning concert in Mestre at the Teatro Corso, Italy 1977.

The performance also features appearances from Martin Jenkins, Sam Mitchell and Leo Wijnkamp Jr.

The double vinyl is housed in a wide spined sleeve and includes a download card.

Various Artists ‘Dennis Hopper’s The Last Movie’

Ltd edition Yellow vinyl, Gatefold sleeve

Via Earth Recordings.

After the incredible success of the film Easy Rider, Dennis Hopper was given complete freedom to direct and star in the bizarre, surrealist The Last Movie – released in 1971. Filmed in a drug fuelled haze in Peru with Hopper, Peter Fonda, Kris Kristofferson, Dean Stockwell, Michelle Phillips, Russ Tamblyn, and Samuel Fuller – there has never been a soundtrack to this film until now!

Featuring the first ever performances of Kristofferson’s legendary “Me and Bobby McGee” plus sublime country-folk songs from John Buck Wilkin, Peruvian folk & dance music – all recorded live on set in Peru – nothing was overdubbed! Plus, provocative movie dialogue from Dennis Hopper, Sam Fuller and others – coupled with the ambient sounds of the mountains and villages of South America – reissue producer Pat Thomas and Hopper Estate archivist Jessica Hundley have assembled a groovy listening experience that will melt minds.

Packaging includes rare vintage photos, detailed liner notes, et al. The Last Movie recordings are being released for the first time ever in any audio format – taken from the original movie reels!

Pigbag ‘Dr Heckle And Mr Jive’

Black vinyl

Via Call Of The Void.

The debut album by post-punk/funk group, Pigbag – Formed from creative jam sessions in punk’s aftermath, the young group gathered steam after convincing Simon Underwood to join the fun following his departure from The Pop Group.

Mixing punk, funk, jazz, ska, reggae and afrobeat into a bewitching brew, this vinyl reissue is the first time this album has been on wax since 1982.

“A largely forgotten band with one hugely iconic song, just enough to mark them down in the history books.” The Line Of Best Fit

“A brilliant UK underground group” AllMusic

Jon Brion ‘Synecdoche New York’ OST

Ltd Edition White Vinyl

Via FROST.

The soundtrack to Charlie Kaufman’s 2009 cult movie Synecdoche New York starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman is released for the first time on white vinyl.

A story of time-elapsing paranoia where weeks, months, years go by as the repetitive blur overtakes.

Scored by the uniquely eclectic Jon Brion (Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Lady Bird, etc) it’s a super-detailed drama with as suitably reflective, melancholy, and contemplative soundtrack.

Praise for Lady Bird: “Brion’s score subtly and deftly mirrors the existential ambling of Greta Gerwig’s outstanding coming-of-age film” Pitchfork

“He (Brion) discusses popular music with the reverence and concern of a cultural historian eager to preserve a legacy at risk of extinction, but one whose own contributions to the form have continued to ensure its survival.” Vanity Fair
